Day 2: 4308 Words

3 February 2011

Slower start this morning than yesterday (yesterday I ended at 11:30… today i started at 11:30), but still a good day of writing, and a continuation from yesterday’s chapter.  I considered going back to the page yesterday after blogging so that I could finish the scene I was on, but I remembered the advice from one of those big famous writers (can’t remember who at the moment) that it is good practice to end mid-sentence, so that when you begin writing the next day, you’ll know where to start.  I didn’t end mid-sentence, but I did end mid-scene, and it really helped.  I’m happy that I’m writing chronologically so far.  I don’t really have a problem with writing chapters or scenes out of order, and I’ve done it before, but I like having that little status bar in my mind of my story loading from beginning to end.  If I write out of order, that status bar looks like it needs defragmenting.  Mixed computer metaphors, I know.  That makes me two kinds of failed nerd, but I still like it.

Dropped the brother off at the bus station this morning so he can go into hibernation for two weeks at Bringham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.  No, not ill, but rather volunteering to be a lab rat.  I was sort of counting on him as head whip-cracker here in novel land, but I guess I’LL DO IT MYSELF.  Until the 16th.

Today’s Word Count:  2219

Total Project Word Count:  4308

To quote one of my favorite writers: “Now you’re cooking with water off a duck’s back!”.

This is what always comes to mind with the phrase “mixed metaphor.”

I know that one….but google won’t help me….who said that? I’m dying here….I always liked “A bird in the hand is worth two with one stone”…

also, google isn’t a word yet. it got spell-checked on me.

oh, and I’m back now, so get the hell writing already!

I’ve always thought of it as a John Young original…
